Pamper Pack Project - December 2020
Each year we put together Bags of Love which are then distributed to local women in need. In past years we have collected pre-loved bags but this year members made tote bags. We have made and filled 18 bags with toiletries and pamper products. We have chosen to distribute them at a local high school to young women who are experiencing challenges in their life and need a bit of TLC.

We are holding a Bunning Sausage Sizzle - Sunday 30th August at the Mount Barker store. Come along and buy one of our delicious sausage sandwiches. EFT available.
Michelle Warwick our new President produced this video to show who we are and what we do in the ideals of Zonta International.
Sunday 7th June 2020
Due to COVID-9 most Zonta clubs have been restricted in what they do best and that is fund-raising. At Zonta Club of Mt Barker a small group of members have continued making breast cushions, but privately rather than in a group. One member has done the sewing, but others have helped fill the cushions and do the necessary hand-sewing required. Breast cancer doesn't stop for the virus, and so these cushions are always required for women (or men) who have surgery. |
On Friday 3rd January 2020 the proceeds from the Bunnings sausage sizzle was present to Adam Weinert and Jodie Turpin at the Lobethal Bushfire Recovery Centre by club President Di McCallum. The funds will go to assist those who have been affected by the fires in the area. Also pictured are Amanda Geue, Kelly Lewis, club member Michelle Warwick, Tamika Christoforou, club member Merrilyn Farrington and club member Rebekah Sharkie Federal Member for Mayo

Expect Respect Ceremony - 27th November 2020
Advocacy Convenor Marg for the last 5 years has organised a breakfast in Strathalbyn and the Expect Respect Ceremony at the Eastern Fleurieu School for members and supporters of our club to commemorate the women and children who have been victims of Domestic Violence. We also launch a calendar that the students produce as part of the program.
We also facilitate the Young Women in Public Affairs Award to recognise the leadership skills and achievements of two young women at local high schools. After the breakfast we headed to the Eastern Fleurieu School where a ceremony is held to remember the women and children who have lost their lives to domestic violence this year. The names of the artists whose artwork has been chosen for the calendar are announced and the calendar is officially launched. There are some samples of the artwork here. We are selling copies of the calendar for $7.50 (plus postage if required) to raise funds so we can support this program again next year. Please message us or email mtbarkerzonta@gmail us if you would to order a copy. |

May 2017 - Trivia Night
A fun night was had by all at our ‘Trivia Night’ fund-raiser held in May.
The evening was well attended by members and their friends with over 100 joining in the fun.
It was great to see our reigning champions from the previous year who came back to defend their title. However, the prize went to a very enthusiastic group of Maura’s friends.
The Wine Wall proved to be popular with most bottles being sold.
We were fortunate to again have Leigh Miller as our Quiz Master.
The Trivia Night raised over $3,600 to go towards our various projects and we plan to make this an annual event due to its popularity.

Commission on the Status of Women Since 1969, Zonta International has had General Consultative Status at the United Nations. This is the highest possible status for a non-governmental organisation (NGO) at the UN, and makes Zonta one of only 146 NGOs to have achieved this status out of the more than 4,000 NGOs involved with the UN. As an NGO with General Consultative Status, Zonta International is invited to participate in the annual Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York. CSW is a functional commission of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the UN, and the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. 2015 is one of the most important years for women worldwide. It is the 20th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and the resulting Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, as well as the year that existing UN Millennium Development Goals expire. During 2015, the UN will be developing a new post-2015 global development agenda in the form of Sustainable Development Goals. To this end, Zonta made its voice heard loud and clear at the 59th annual CSW meeting held on 11 March 2015. The ZI Board, Zonta UN Committee and headquarters staff have been working hard to ensure Zonta’s priorities are included in the post-2015 agenda. During the CSW59, more than 70 Zontians participated to advocate for a strong and sustainable post 2015 development agenda that emphasises gender equality and women’s empowerment, and to promote proposed Sustainable Goal 5 Achieve Gender Equality and Empower all Women and Girls. |

International Women's Day Has been observed since the early 1900's and is now an official holiday in 27 countries. The new millennium has witnessed significant change and attitudinal shift in both women's and society's thoughts about women's equality and emancipation. There have been gains made however the unfortunate fact is that women are still not paid equally to that of their male counterparts, women are still not present in equal numbers in business or politics and globally women's education, health and the violence against them is worse than that of men. Zonta is involved at an international level advocating on behalf of women across all of these major issues. More information can be found at www.zonta.org Zonta Mt Barker always welcomes new members who want to take up the cause for women. |
