WHAT'S THE BUZZ?
The Zonta Club of Mt Barker are excited to have funded the participation of up to three girls from the community, in this program. This allows girls who would not normally be able to participate due to cost, come and join the 18 week program.
What's The Buzz? is an evidence-based fun and interactive program written in SA by Mark Le Messurier and Madhavi Nawana Parker, both of whom the convenors of the program have been lucky enough to do training with over time. The aim of ‘What’s the Buzz?’ is to teach children how to think and how to better relate to others in social situations and it is proving itself with amazing results with kids throughout the world (including our own children who have attended WTB classes both at their schools and in Adelaide!)
"What's the Buzz/" is an 18 session program for all 3 age groups (Early Learners 5-8 years, Primary Students 8-12 years and Teenagers 13+ years) with age appropriate stories and structure, as well as two parent or carer sessions throughout the program.
What’s the Buzz? is a unique social skills enrichment program which uses lively stories, role plays and play based programs to encourage children to think about how to get along with others and explore the benefits of developing new social skills. In an encouraging group environment, they discover everyday themes such as how to greet, make and keep friends, fit in, read one’s own emotions, read the feelings of others, deal with competition and cope with worry, frustration and disappointment more constructively all while building trust and friendship within the circle.
The program is based on the "S.A.F.E." principles which stimulate social thinking and accomplish powerful outcomes using a curriculum that is:
Sequenced - shows a logical step-by-step break down of each new skill
Active - uses role-plays and rehearsal (kinaesthetic) with feedback
Focused - dedicates time solely towards teaching a specific skill
Explicit - teaches a specific social/emotional skill each session
